-What You Can’t See-
Personality: While once an innocent, sweet little girl, Kerani has grown up in a less than ideal environment and her experiences have taken a toll on her. She is burdened with conflicting thoughts and feelings about both her parents, especially with the efforts her father put into focusing her loyalty and love on him, rather than the mother she kept trying to get back to. She feels some degree of anger that her mother never found her and did not stop her father from taking her away from all she had ever known. She feels definite resentment with the way her father took her away from all she had known and kept her confined. Yet to some degree she also loved her father in spite of the kidnapping and confinement. Especially when he was the only company she had. She finds it very hard to trust others, especially those who appear "too" friendly, the fear in the back of her mind always present that they might try to take her away and confine her the way her father did. She wants to live a normal life the way others enjoy, but the toll of her confinement early in life is not something she can easily shake off.
History: Though the circumstances surrounding her conception were less than ideal, to say the least, Kerani's earliest days were fairly peaceful, aside from the visit from a black-pelted, blue-eyed stallion who had stared at her in a way that made her feel a bit confused and frightened and who Mama kept from getting anywhere near her. Considering her first sight of him he had been covered in blood, she had been frightened of him and did not like when he came around. Still, eventually he had gone away and Kerani had been able to go back to a life of spending time with her mama and grandma, with not a care in the world.
That all changed when she was just nine months old. On an afternoon of frolicking, chasing anything that moved, she did not notice until too late that her frolic had taken her out of sight of her mother and grandmother. It was this moment that the sire she had only glimpsed once had been waiting for. He had been watching her for days, having abandoned his other family, obsessed with the daughter he had not been allowed to have in his life and now he intended on rectifying what he saw as a wrong. At first he just spoke to her, his persona very friendly and warm, though there was an almost disturbing, fanatical light in his blue eyes that made the little girl uneasy, albeit for reasons she could not explain. When she tried to edge back towards where her mother and grandmother would be, however, he struck. The next thing Kerani knew, she was being taken away by a stallion who kept insisting that everything was going to be wonderful, that they would be the family they were meant to be and when she struggled too much, he was forced to knock her unconscious and get her away in a manner that was not what he had hoped for, considering the reunion he had always envisioned.
For the next few years, Kerani was to spend her life in captivity to an obsessive father who, throughout it all, never stopped insisting that they were a happy family and that everything was perfect once they were together. Kerani tried to escape more than once, trying to get back to her mother, but he always managed to stop her from getting back. Always he did his best to win her loyalty and affection, even to a point of saying that her mother did not want her anymore, that she had asked him to take Kerani away, because she never wanted to see her daughter again. Though the filly did not want to believe such a thing, even now as a full grown mare she has no idea whether it is true or not. Sometimes she believes it, sometimes she still resists the idea that her mother would cast her aside like that, but she just does not know.
Then came the day that her father vanished. As much as she resented him for what he had done to her, Kerani could not help but try to find him after she managed to escape the cage he had kept her in all those years. For months afterward, while she tried to find him, she could not help but return to the cage to sleep at night, feeling more secure in the confinement than with the sudden freedom she had found. Finally, when she could not find her father, she started back towards the lands in which she had been born. While grieving the father she could not find and presumed dead, Kerani was nervous about what she might find when she returned home. What if her mother had given her away and did not want to see her again? Maybe her mother would be angry with her for coming back?
It has been a difficult journey, alone and made anxious outside of the confinement that she feels as though she has known her whole life, but finally, Kerani has made her way to the land of Wild Equines, where she was born. What she will find now in her search for her mother is yet to be seen...
