Personality: Fennore is a very loyal stag, willing to put his life on the line for those he loves. He is gentle and sweet to mares, and would never do anything to harm one. Yet he can be quite fierce when called upon to protect his faes (or any other faes, for that matter). Guilt has haunted much of his life for failing to protect his harem when a silver-tongued deceiver took it all. He has a big heart and an ability to love equally all those who come into his life.
History: Fennore was born the son of a Lead stag, standing to inherit that position when their father passed away, but gave it up when his twin brother desired the position. Though the eldest by nearly half an hour, Fennore loved his brother dearly and was more than willing to give up the station of Lead to avoid conflict with his brother. Peace favored the herd for nearly two years, before tragedy struck. Men came, rounding up the herd for purposes unknown to the equines. Only a few, including Fennore, escaped capture. For days he wandered alone, trying to find the others. Eventually he gave up hope that any others had escaped or still survived and has come here to Wild Equines, seeking to start life afresh. Here it was he started anew, taking leadership of the land called The Cascades. Over the course of a year, he built up a harem of mares that he loved equally, though his beloved mate, Akela, held a very special place in his heart as his first love. Things were very happy for the Gypsy stag, until, one day, the herd was attacked.
The wolves came out of no-where, obviously starving, and wild with hunger. Fennore fought fiercely against the predators, but the outlook was very bleak until the sudden arrival of another stallion. In time, the two stallions had killed or driven away the last of the wolves. Grateful for the aid provided, Fennore offered the stranger a place in the herd and soon the two stallions were as close as any brothers could have been. He trusted his friend implicitly, never imagining the truth of this "brother in arms", whom he trusted so blindly. It was several years before the truth was revealed. Slowly, so that Fennore did not have the opportunity to spot and halt such machinations, the Dark stallion -- for such he was, despite what he had claimed to Fennore -- stole away all his mares, his silver tongue wooing them all away from the safety of their home and lord.
This betrayal infuriated Fennore and he vowed to seek vengeance, and bring back his mares. His sons also accompanied him, determined to do whatever necessary to put their home back the way it should be. Only Fennore survived the conflict, for the enemy had been waiting with reinforcements. How he even he survived, is a mystery to him. From then on he dwelt alone in the land in which he had known the highest heights of joy... and now the lowest depths of grief. Guilt plagued him, knowing it to be his fault, for he had trusted the Dark and thus made his mares vulnerable to the silver-tongued lies of the traitor. As if his name had been a prophecy, Fennore haunted his lands like the ghost his name proclaimed him to be, alone, but never allowing another to tread upon his lands. No mares came in that time, only stallions seeking to claim a land and he would have no stallion enter his land; not then and not ever, so he had vowed.
Then one day, as he wandered alone across the barren lands of his once lively home, a familiar scent drifted to his nares. It was Delila, one of the mares who had once lived under his protection. Fearing it to be some strange hallucination -- and it would not have been the first -- he had been cautious to approach, but when at last he had touched her, he knew it to be no dream, no nightmare. It was real. Reality truly sank in when, after welcoming her home, Delila promptly went into labor at his hooves. He knew the event had embarrassed her acutely, but he had simply been overjoyed to have her back, remembering little of embarrassing detail for her to worry about. Though Rena was not his child, he raised and loved the filla just as if she had been.
In time, several other mares returned to The Cascades -- Fiona was one such -- and several other mares also joined his herd: The troubled Takaya, young Unheard, among others. Things seemed to be looking up for the haunted stallion, but it was not to last. When Delila requested a foal, he granted her request, thinking happily of what it would be like to have a foal in the land again. That happiness was tampered with grief when his dear Delila, first of his girls to come home, perished in bringing Adina into the world. Devastated by this new loss, Fennore had little time to dwell on it. With Rena's help, he raised his daughter in peace for several months, until the disasters struck, driving all equines forth from their home. In the midst of all this chaos, Rena was killed. Were it not for Adina he would have gone mad. At last the storms abated and he was able to return home. The land was a mess, but that mattered little. Everywhere, all were attempting to rebuild their lives and he had likely lost in the storm no more than anyone else. At least, it would seem that way, but when tallied with all the other losses he had suffered... it hardly seemed fair.
Shortly after returning to The Cascades, the sweet Hackney mare, Kiseki, made his land her home at his invitation. He kept watch over her with Adina when she slept and socialized with Kiseki while his daughter slept, but never brought the two together. Even now he is not sure what kept him from introducing the two, unless it was selfishness in wanting to keep her all to himself for as long as he possibly could. However, when Adina had turned six months of age, he finally introduced his two most precious treasures to one another. He has not regretted the move either, for in Kiseki his daughter has found a true friend and it is obvious that Kiseki dearly loves the little filla. He only regrets that he did not introduce the two earlier, instead of keeping them apart for so long.
Shortly after the introduction of mare and filla, new darkness made itself felt over the herd, particularly for Fennore. The cruel Helkaer, Rigor Mortis, challenged for his land. Though such a move seemed ludicrous in the extreme, nevertheless, the Gypsy stag went into battle with the determination to win. What devastation he felt, therefore, whe he failed his beloved family. His return home and informing his two treasures of what had happened -- at least to a certain extent; for while Kiseki likely understood what it all meant, Adina was totally clueless and that was what he preferred -- before the cruel beast returned to set out terms. Before such terms could be laid out, however, another stallion entered the lands. This was Raef of the Versai, who then challenged the Helkaer beast for the freedom of The Cascades. Watching the two stallions go, Fennore had fretted over the fate of his family, but sheer exhaustion had won out in the end. He had gone back to where his girls were hiding and collapsed into a deep sleep.
What a shock it was when he was aroused by Adina, warning that the Versai stallion had returned. His heart nearly stopped when he realized that she had gone out to greet the stallion alone, a hundred different worse case scenarios spinning through his mind at such a thought. However, fortunately for himself and Adina, Raef was a Light stallion whose only errand to the land was to inform of his victory over the Helkaer beast, and that they were once more free. However, considering how much Adina adores her large new friend, Fennore suspects they will be seeing more of Raef...
Next to come into their life was a mare called Hope who, despite her name, seemed to have little of that trait within her. With Adina's help, he hoped to aid a mare who seemed to have suffered much in life. They opened their home to the palomino mare and did everything they could to make sure she felt comfortable and happy. In this time, Adina wished to visit Raef in the Versai lands and, though a little reluctant to leave The Cascades and have Adina out in the wide world, the doting father agreed and to her to Rosemonde. There, as she had pleaded, he left her be to visit her friend, while he went back to check and make sure things were going well at home - Adina knowing not to leave the company of her large friend until her father had come for her. It was on the way back that sounds caught his attention and the ghostly Vanner dared enter the domain of the Helkaer to rescue a mare called Wintor from the clutches of those who had held her captive. He returned her to her home, which so happened to be Rosemonde, and from there took Adina hope - making sure she had not seen the mare he had brought back, for he did not wish to distress his innocent daughter.
They made it home safely, but what he had done had not gone unnoticed. Nor would the Helkaer allow it to go unpunished. Several months later, the attack came. By the time the assassins had left him, he had been beaten and bloodied badly, and by the time Adina found him the Vanner knew that his hours were numbered. Still, his innocent daughter insisted on getting him to the Versai, hoping that they would be able to help her father. Alas, they could do no more than help her to get him comfortable and all he could do was try to comfort his little girl as best he could before the end came.
But for Fennore, the end is only a new beginning, for now Utopia is his home. From here he can watch over his daughter and make sure that she is safe. It was difficult, learning that he needed to take a step back and not haunt her every step, to let her move on and not spend the rest of her life mourning for him. And to learn that others needed his help too. In fact, it has been that need to help others that drove him to make a sacrifice that would impact his whole existence. Despite the budding romance between himself and another angel, Brinda, he had to make this sacrifice. He saw no other way. The Light Royals needed help and no one else was lifting a finger to aid them, despite tragedy after tragedy befalling them, so he did the only thing he could. He sacrificed his own soul to gain control of Respira in hopes that thus he would be able to use his rank of Guardian of Humility (a position he was allowed to maintain long enough to finish what he had begun) effectively and that Respira would release Lexi, whom she had stolen. Of course, once connected to the Helkaer mare's soul, he realized his mistake. That all that would have been necessary would be information on a few individuals that he could have easily procured. Alas, what's done is done and there is no turning back now...
