Personality: Though once defined the most by his insatiable curiousity as a colt, Roval as grown much and now it is his fierce protectiveness of his loved ones that is most evident in his personality. He is, for the most part, quiet and calm, but will not tolerate any threat to his daughters. One who is content to lead or follow, his main concern in life is his family.
History: Roval was born in the land called Heat Wave Hill, son of the Lead, Sam, and a herd mare, Silent Wings. He lived a happy foalhood there, nothing in particular happening to mar the peace and contentment of his life. He had several half siblings, so he was never lonely or in want of a friend. It was not until he was a couple of years old that things began to happen. It was then that his father, Sam died, as well as several other members of the herd. His half-sister and heir to the land, Sam's Spark, took over leadership, along with her mate, Carlos. Things went on with relative peace, but Roval was growing restless. As a young stag, he was content at home, but there was always as sense that there was something out in the world waiting for him. Eventually, after Spark and Carlos perished, and another had taken over the herd, Roval decided it was time to move on and make his own way in the world. Accompanied by his beloved mother, the young stag ventured out to Femiet Beach. It was here that a meeting occurred that would change his life forever.
What was this momentous occasion, you may ask? It was the meeting of Roval and fairytale. Wandering along the beach, the young stag had noted the femme splashing about in the surf. When she had realized that she was no longer along, the pair fell to talking. It was a classic case of love at first sight; Roval fell head over heels for the lovely grey damsel, while she adored her black knight just as much. Into their acquaintance there another stag happened along, Irish Meadow, who invited them to make his home, Land of Mist, their own abode as well. Roval was content with this, agreeing readily as soon as he was sure his mother would and, more importantly, once ascertaining that fairytale would also be headed that way. She was going that way, but had further plans aside from simply dwelling in the Neutral land Irish Meadow ruled. She, knowing that Roval was a Light, desired a haven for her beloved and claimed one of the subherds for them to live at. Unfortunately, while Roval was just as happy with this arrangment as he would have been with living in the main herd land, Meadow was not pleased at all. The little family moved on, not wishing to cause any further problems.
Once again, fairytale claimed a land for them, this time in the Light lands on a piece of paradise-like terrain that she aptly titled Paradisar Dalur, "Paradise Valley". It was a beautiful place, made even more beautiful by the loving family that now inhabited its borders. And to make their joy complete, Roval and fairytale united in love, and she conceived a foal. As time passed, Roval grew more concerned for his beloved, as she grew to be excessively round. He worried that something might go wrong, particularly if the foal she carried was too large. Had he asked his dam, she might have warned him that she suspected his mate to be carrying twins, but as she was not positive herself, she kept such information to herself and Roval did not ask. Eventually the happy day arrived when their family was blessed with not just one foal, but two! Wyn's suspicions had proven correct.
Things might have continued on just as joyously as ever, but tragedy loomed on the horizon. The twins were barely a month old when their mother was swept away by a river that had been flooded by melting snow in the mountains, it's deceptively placid surface hiding a raging tempest beneath. Grief-stricken, Roval nevertheless tried his best to stay strong for the sake of his family; for his daughters especially and also his mother, who had gone through tribulation herself the year before, when she had been attacked and raped. The little family grew close, but there was one worry; the twins desperately needed milk, but who could he find to provide it? There were no other mares in the herd. The answer came providentially a few days later, when the mare called Paradox Wings wandered into his land. She was a mother without a child, whereas his children were without a mother. Though hesitant to request such a thing, Roval finally did work up the courage to ask if she would be willing to provide for his daughters and, to his great relief, she accepted. As time passed and the pair worked together in raising the twins, Roval realized that he was coming to care deeply for this femme who had aided him when he needed it most. His beloved fairytale would always have a very special place in his heart, but he could not deny that he was in love with Paradox Wings.
Their romance, unfortunately, was a tragically short one. Not long after she gave birth to their first foal, she perished. Now Roval is again a widower father, with three daughters to provide for and protect. A month back, his mother, Silent Wings, succumbed to old age, passing away peacefully in her sleep. As grief-stricken as the little family has been with this development, life goes on.
Through the months that passed, Roval dedicated himself to his family, protecting and providing, doing everything he could to distract himself from his own grief. Eventually, however, his daughters old enough to realize that he needed to do things other than spend every waking moment looking after them, they sent him to spend some time in the Free Lands. As it turned out, this was just the thing he needed. Though it would take him quite some time to realize it. On this excursion to the Free Lands, he met Hope. A lengthy, friendly conversation and then they parted ways, with the hopes of meeting up again some time, Hope mentioning that she spent much of her time in that area. The next time Roval went to visit the palomino femme, however, the place she had told him about was empty and there were signs of a struggle. Instructing his daughters to hide, Roval took off to track down his friend, to find her trying to fend off a brute. With fury unsurpassed, the black Arab charged into the fray and drove off the offending beast. At last, they made their way back to where he had left his daughters - beyond relieved to see all three were safe and unharmed - and was able to introduce them to Hope.
It did not take long before the girls noticed just how attached their father and Hope were to one another, though neither seemed in any hurry to admit it to the other. While they plotted and schemed ways to get them to admit their feelings, things worked out just fine on their own as Hope at last spoke to Roval of how she felt and he, in turn, though terribly afraid, admitted that he felt the same.
Surely the relationship seemed to be blooming... but the story was cut short all too soon. Driven by wolves and caught in a trap set by humans ages ago to catch the ancestors of those wolves - the canines having adapted and begun to use the traps for their own hunting - Hope refusing to leave his side, the pair perished together.
But is that truly the end of the story?
