Personality: Once upon a time, Turve Amour was the most arrogant little wretch to stride the earth. She had a high standard of what she thought a Dark should be and anyone who did not measure up she despised. She despised her sire for loving a Light mare, she despised her mother for being a Light, and viewed most of the rest of her family with equal disdain. Events that have taken place in her life, however, have humbled her greatly and have taught her that the opinions she once cherished were weak and not worth keeping. She is a fierce individual, particularly when those she has come to care for are threatened. She prefers action, disliking when she cannot take an active role when danger threatens the herd. She also now holds a great respect for her mother, having seen how the Light mare she once disdained responded when abandoned by Turve's sire, and an enduring affection for her younger sister.
History: Turve Amour was born the heiress of her father's land and an arrogant attitude that she deserved it. She spent much of her foalhood doing exactly as she pleased, going whereever she wanted to, and disdaining her Light mother and thinking her father weak for loving aforementioned Light mother. Things might have continued in the aforementioned vein, but things were afoot that would eventually change her life forever. There were minor events, such as her father raping a Light mare -- who, oddly enough, then followed him home, claiming to love him and have turned Dark, though Turve did not believe it for a moment -- or such as the drama the followed after that event, of her mother spending time away in Opaque Beach because it hurt her so much that her own daughter thought so little of her. One key even that began to change Turve's mind about things, however, was when her dam returned home with the body of Afon Coch. Something about this even triggered a softening in the formerly hardened young vixen.
The final event to truly trigger the changes in the young Anglo-Arab was the abandonment by her sire and the suceeding things she observed. She learned then that her mother was not weak, despite being a Light. Even when they were forced to flee their home and wander about, Turve saw how her mother maintained a quiet strength that got them through, despite being pregnant and, thereafter, raising a young daughter without any place to call home.
It was a year later that, while visiting Kunipar Cliffs, Turve met Psychosocial and accepted a position in his herd as warrioress. It was perhaps a step down from being heiress as she had once been, but it certainly was better than just being a herd member. At least she would be able to keep herself active. She went to rejoin her mother and sister, informing them of her decision and also warning them never to come to Lost World, as the Lead had a policy of enslaving any Lights that trespassed within his territory. With a farewell far more fond than might have taken place only a few years back, Turve set out for Lost World.
Turve arrived in the land at a rather hectic time, for it was only very shortly after her arrival that the lead warrioress disappeared and another warrioress was stolen. This effected her only minimally, of course, as she had never had a chance to become at all acquainted with either Shattered Dreams or Arizona. It did effect her one way, however. The lead warrior, Sky, had no other female to attend to, leaving her as his only target. She, having never before had anything to do with any male that was not related to her by blood, was completely unprepared for his advances. Unexperienced in the extreme, she was supremely sensitive and such vulnerability angered her, causing her to lash out more than once when he troubled her. He tormented her almost ceaselessly with innuendoes and caresses, until finally the other warrioress that had been stolen was retrieved at last to Turve's great relief.
Shortly before the return of the other warrioress, to make Turve's life even more complicated, her mother and sister wandered into Lost World. She would later learn that they had been living in another Dark land, had gotten misdirected in a storm, and ended up completely unaware of where they were. Sky was the first to accost the pair, earning Shia's enduring hatred, with Psycho and Turve arriving shortly thereafter. Being recognized by her mother, things became acutely uncomfortable for the chestnut warrioress. It was then that Psycho left her with two choices, betray her family or betray her herd. Tied between betraying the family she had finally learned to care very much for or betraying the herd she served with dedication since joining, she was freed from making that choice when her mother offered to give herself up freely if her daughters could go free -- for if Turve were to betray the herd, she would also be enslaved. Psycho made a counter-offer, allowing Turve to continue to go free, but enslaving the two wandering mares who were her kin. Outraged as she was by this event, but with little that she could do about it, Turve spent the next year doing her duties as usual, but spending all of her free time going out and picking fights with anyone she met. Frustration and rage boiled over in her veins during this time, the only way to ease the maelstrom being to find an opponent. It was during this time that she met the mare Zela in Negrizaria. She had attacked the Arab, but had lost the fight rather quickly. However, when Zela had heard Turve's story, the chestnut warrioress soon found herself with a sympathetic friend.
With the disappearance of Arizona -- which Turve still knows only minimal details about -- the Anglo-Arab worried that Sky would again begin his tormenting of her. There was little time for such things, for tribulation struck the herd when Venom was stolen. They found her not long thereafter, but the condition of the filly was terrible. The fiery warrioress wanted nothing better than to visit furious retribution upon the beast who had done this to one that Turve was dedicated to protect. It was during this time, as she gazed with anger and sorrow upon the mangled filla, uttering words of pity when she thought no one would hear, that Sky asked her if she wished to be a mother. Shocked and immediately put on guard by this query, more than ready to lash out if he tried starting up again into his previous tricks of making her life miserable, she was surprised when he seemed very serious. Wary of a trap, but not quite prepared to jump to conclusions quite yet, the Anglo-Arab and her former tormentor were able to hold a civil conversation, that even became friendly towards the end. Turve is not sure yet what to think about this "new" Sky, but she intends to take her mother's advice, given only moments before the fire struck Lost World, to give him a chance.
With the interruption of the fire, things became very intense, for while they were racing towards where much of the herd waited, they heard Marli cry out. Turve, intending to make sure her mother and sister were headed toward safety, and then turn back to get Marli, discovered only too late that her mother had also heard the cry and had gone off to help the distressed and endangered flicka. Ordering Shia to keep going and to inform the others of what had happened, the chestnut warrioress than hurried after her mother. Once within the worst of the inferno, she lost track of her mother, but did hear Psycho and Sky somewhere in the fire. However, she also knew where Marli was and continued in that direction, hoping to find her mother. She did not find her dam, but she did find the unconscious Marli. Pulling the cream flicka onto her back, Turve hurried to get out of the flames. On the way out, she was met by Sky, who let her know that Psycho was getting her mother. The race to escape was a difficult one, but they made it, though Turve was later to find that her mother - though still alive - had been trapped under a fallen tree and badly injured.
Their arrival in a new land, Schwarzwald, was not without mishap. Just when it seemed they had all made it safely, a head count made them realize that Venom was not with them. In fact, in all the chaos, some villain had taken advantage of the situation and stolen the crimson filly away from the herd. For over a year they all searched, desperate to find the missing member of the family and it was a difficult thing to obey when Sky called off the search. Two years later, the prodigal would return.... in the company of the very one that had stolen her. That was a tense meeting that did not go well at all. On the other hand, it did have some benefit in that it was the start of Turve truly giving Sky a chance, rather than just reacting to how uncomfortable he had made her over the years. It wasn't an ideal ending, but it wasn't just an ending... it was also a beginning
The next most eventful happening to take place was another loss. Though Turve long held the grim suspicion that her mother would be the first to die because of the terrible injuries sustained in the fire, it was Oderia who left this life first. The birth of a seventh foal was also the death of the cream matriarch of Schwarzwald. Though grieved deeply by the loss of the mare who had taught her so much, Turve did what she could to help the family. She particularly tried to be for young Totilas what his mother had been for her. But the bitterness of his family turned out to be too much to be overcome. That much had become clearer as time passed and the colt grew older. And when Psychosocial was killed by a group of mountain lions, suspicion was born as to the strange coincidence of a group hunting together like that - when such creatures are generally lone hunters - and the memory of having occasionally caught scent of cougars upon Totilas' pelt as a colt. With no solid proof that Totilas had orchestrated his own father's death, however, Turve did nothing. Except once again try to help the family pick up the pieces.
With time, Turve slowly learned to follow the advice left to her by the dying Oderia. To trust. And eventually, she had finally surrendered her heart to Sky. Brief happiness. But it hadn't lasted. Death stalked the family. One by one, they seemed to fall, and only two months after Turve had conceived a foal with Sky, the chestnut stallion was dead, like so many of his family. Killed by a mountain lion. One that she had thereafter hunted down and killed in her fury, despite being two months pregnant.
When Totilas made the move from Schwarzwald to Pendle Island, Turve followed - though not before making sure Shia was safely away to the Neutral Royals, where her sister could find a home and a better life for herself. She has sometimes questioned that decision, but the memory of vows made to the family which Totilas was a part of - whether he acknowledged that or not - held her back. She isn't worried for her own safety; having survived everything else, she is confident in her ability to keep on surviving. However, she does worry for Lyra - the one surviving member who had still been living in Schwarzwald, though she can only hope Venom and Crucifix are still alive and safe - and for the unborn life she carries. The question as to whether Totilas has been killing off his kin remains rooted within her and Turve cannot help but wonder if that places Lyra and the foal in her womb in danger.
Fortunately, when the time came for the foal to be born, Turve was not without protection. It was not exactly a surprise when Oderia appeared, pristine and angelic, ready to give what assistance she could; Oderia might have been a Dark mare, but she had been wonderful mother to her children, wonderful friend, and so it was not so difficult to imagine the champagne mare as an angel. What came as far more of a surprise was to see Sky too was an angel. With their presence, not even the brief, rather hostile appearance of Hades was a problem and, soon enough, little Orestes was born.
Between the urging of mate and mother-in-law, and the fact that Crucifix stole her, Turve was at last able to take her small family and leave Pendle Island without feeling guilty for the departure. She would wish very much that something could be done to help Totilas, but she cannot place Lyra and Orestes in that kind of danger.
