Personality: Once upon a time she could be sweet, gentle and affectionate. Those days are long gone. These days Shia is a very bitter, unhappy mare who prefers to just be left alone. The only equine she has any interest in seeing is her elder sister, Turve Amour, and even then, she harbors seeds of bitterness even against her sister because of the way things happened in the past. It's rare to find her in conversation with anyone and even if someone does manage to get her into a conversation, don't expect her to be a cheerful, talkative companion.
History: Mashiara was born in a time of great troubling for her family. Her father had disappeared without a trace, never to be seen again. Hard on the heels of his disappearance, disasters had struck their homeland, forcing herself, her mother, and her siblings to flee the land. In all the chaos that ensued, they were separated from all of her half siblings, only her elder full sister, Turve Amour, remaining with them. What happened to the others, none of them know. What she does know is that she spent a relatively contented foalhood in the company of her mother and big sister.
When she was a year old, her elder sister met and accepted the offer of a Dark stallion, Psychosocial, to become a part of his herd -- a meeting occurring while Turve was in Kunipar Cliffs, socializing with those of her own alliance. Shia was very sad to bid her sister farewell, particularly as visiting Turve was not something they could do, due to the fact that the Lead had a tendency to enslave any Light that stepped upon his land without question. Shia herself had no set alliance yet, but Mother was undeniably a Light, despite the Dark that she had loved. Therefore, plans were made to meet Turve at intervals during the year at Femiet Beach and then final farewells were spoken.
Mother and daughter returned to wandering and, during this time, wandered into the land of a Dark called Jason Vorhees. He was easygoing for a Dark and appointed Mother the position of mistress, but with the promise that he would never force her, while Shia herself was given free rein to do as she pleased without fear. This would all have gone on well enough, until the baron died quite suddenly. Not wishing to stick around in case a less amiable master were to take control of the land, the pair -- accompanied by a fellow Light who had been stolen by the aforementioned stallion -- left once again. During a storm they were separated from Flicka -- the other Light -- and also lost their way. It was at this time that they wandered, unbeknownst of where they were, directly into Lost World.
Sky was the first to accost the pair, earning Shia's enduring hatred, with Psycho and Turve arriving shortly thereafter. Mother recognized Turve immediately, making the situation acutely uncomfortable for the chestnut warrioress. It was then that Psycho left Shia's elder sister with two choices, betray her family or betray her herd. Torn between betraying the family she had finally learned to care very much for or betraying the herd she served with dedication since joining, Shia's sister was freed from making that choice when Mother offered to give herself up freely if her daughters could go free -- for if Turve were to betray the herd, she would also be enslaved. Psycho made a counter-offer, allowing Turve to continue to go free, but enslaving the two wandering mares who were her kin. Thus Shia and her mother were forced to the slave cells. Outraged at this suddenly loss of freedom, Shia came to hate both Psycho and Sky with a passion that endures to this day, mollifed somewhat, however, after they were crucial in saving her mother's life in the wildfire that raged in Lost World.
After a time of dwelling in the slave cell, Psycho eventually gave mother and daughter free rein to roam the land, so long as they did not venture outside of it. Though she would have preferred full freedom, Shia knew better than to argue, especially after a discussion with her mother. It was not long after this that things became very intense, for in the midst of a quiet conversation that Mother and Turve had, warning came of a fire that had broken out. To make matters worse, while they were racing towards where much of the herd waited, they heard Marli cry out. Turve, intending to make sure her mother and sister were headed toward safety, and then turn back to get Marli, discovered only too late that their mother had also heard the cry and had gone off to help the distressed and endangered flicka. Though she wanted nothing more than to help save their mother, Shia obeyed Turve and kept going, heading to where the others were to inform them of what had happened. Though near panicking in wondering whether her family is safe, Shia has found unexpected solace in the motherly comfort of Oderia.
They all managed to make it out alive, but her mother was severely injured. A large branch - perhaps even a small tree - had fallen and pinned Shia's dam for a short time before Psychosocial and Sky had gotten her free, and it had caused rather severe internal damage. Nevertheless, her mother endured for quite some time, outliving both Oderia and Psychosocial. Only when Turve had finally settled down, giving her heart to Sky (much as Shia didn't approve), did the old mare pass on to Utopia. This loss has hurt Shia deeply; as attached to her mother as she was, for quite some time she was practically inconsolable.
With Totilas' rise to power and the move to Pendle Island, Shia did not make the move with the rest. Instead, Turve escorted her out and sent her to the Neutral Royal herd. While she would rather her sister had come as well... from what she has seen of Oderia's youngest son, she knows it would have been a bad idea for her to have stayed. She only hopes that the days of pain, sorrow, and suffering are over. Unfortunately, now all she knows is negativity and it has deeply impacted her outlook in life and how she deals with other equines. In truth, she prefers not to deal with others if at all possible and would like to be left strictly alone. Not that she enjoys her own company all that much either...
