Personality: If there is anything in the world Ahiga hates, it is to see a life wasted. Which is why he would never keep slaves; the suffering and wasted life go against everything he believes in. He is not a Light by any stretch of the imagination, nor is he a Dark. He walks the middle road and his attitude reflects this. He can be tender and generous, but if pushed the wrong way, he can be just as savage as any Dark.
History: Ahiga had a fairly normal early life; born the son of Lakota and Celtic Rain, he was raised mostly by his mother. When she died, for reasons unknown to him, he blamed his father for her death. He left as soon as he could to make a life for himself out in the wide world, but never let go of the grudge he had against his father. Not long after claiming his own land, a black mare strayed into his land and attempted to commit suicide. The young stallion was on hand, fortunately, and prevented her from taking her own life. Ahiga learned that the mare, Miyax, had been a slave and had been driven to the extremity of killing herself due to the cruelty she had suffered. He took care of her, telling her that if she were to commit suicide, she would only be allowing Gino -- her former master -- to win.
He worked long with her, helping her to gain her strength back. Then, one night, she disappeared. He did not have much chance to worry about her, for things to a turn for the worse in his own life when destruction came upon his home. He was forced to flee, the land torn apart by a terrible earthquake. A couple of years later, Ahiga found himself back in the land his father ruled. He might have left, but a familiar scent garnered his attention and he continued on to investigate. There, in the cells of his hated sire's slaves, he found Miyax once again. Furious to see her there, once again trapped in the life of a slave, ready to take her life again, he would have broken her out then and there. However, he did not have to, in the end, for Lakota arrived shortly thereafter and released her to him. Ahiga knew that it was not from any sympathy to the mare or any kindness of his heart that Lakota had done such a thing, but he cared very little. He immediately took the battered, barely conscious mare away. He ended up in the land of Shadow Canyon, a Neutral territory that had a subherd he laid claim to. There it was he could have the privacy to nurse Miyax back to health. And this time, he had no intention of letting her out of his sight for her to harm herself or wander off again.
Miyax was badly injured, both from beatings, from rapes, and from injuries she had inflicted upon herself and would have died were it not for the aid of Aerlinn, the lead mare of Shadow Canyon, who also had some skill in herbs. She helped Ahiga in treating Miyax, but when the ebon mare returned to consciousness, he took fully upon himself the brunt of her care. It was a long, upward climb, bringing her back from the brink. Her body healed in time, taking on a healthier sheen to the inky frame, but he worried about what was still going on within. Then one day a herd meeting was called by Aerlinn that included the subherds. Knowing that the Shadow Canyon herd was quite small and that there would not likely be a large crowd there, Ahiga asked Miyax if she wanted to come. He was not about to force her to come, willing enough by now to leave her on her own for a few hours if need be. However, she chose to go, though he could tell she was nervous about meeting strangers. It was a difficult meeting at first, yet when little Nikko's Melody -- a small flicka with a huge heart -- arrived and cheerfully greeted Miyax, it seemed that the healing of her spirit truly began. Something about the innocence of the foal truly started Miyax towards complete healing.
Several months later, Miyax had healed to the point that she and Ahiga have united in creating a new life. Though he felt a little awkward in asking her about it and had been hiding his feelings for her for quite a while, but he finally felt that she was strong enough, both physically and emotionally, for him to finally admit how much he dearly loved her. The months leading up to the birth of their foal were a thrilling adventure for Ahiga, for this would his first foal. Miyax returned home with their beautiful filly, Kaja. It seemed that life could not be any more wonderful than it was at this time. A shadow lay across the future and things were about to change utterly for Ahiga.
While out one afternoon, going to fetch some special plants for Miyax, Ahiga came across his hated sire. Their "reunion" was brief, but violent, as the younger stallion attacked the older. Unfortunately, blinded with rage as Ahiga was, it was not difficult for Lakota to overpower the younger stallion, landing a blow upon Ahiga's head that knocked him unconscious. Moreover, the blow was such as to cause amnesia -- the only memories Ahiga retained were those as a young colt, before his mother's death -- in the tobiano stallion. This was an opportunity too good for Lakota to pass up on and he ended up taking his son with him, to rewrite the now clean slate of the tobiano's mind. "Reset" in mind to little more than the young colt he had been before his mother's death, he had come to think very highly of his sire. Though Lakota has since passed away, the "training" given by the older stallion has stuck and wherever he has gone since that time, he has left offspring forced upon the mares he has met in his wake.
A little over a year later, Ahiga found his way home. Except that he did not remember it as being home. To the monster he had become, it was simply another location where he might find relief from the blinding migraines he often suffered - which, consequentially came as a result of what his sire had done to him and were strangely eased while distracted by pleasures of the flesh. Greeted by a two-year-old filly, he would have taken her then and there to quiet the thunderous agony of his migraine - never mind the fact that she seemed to recognize him - had it not been for the intervening of her mother. Frustrated, he had turned his sights on the black mare - doubly interested because not only had she raised his ire by interrupting what he had intended with the tobiano filly and he intended to make her suffer for it, but her coloring was one he had a particular partiality to - only to again find himself thwarted with the arrival of another stallion and another mare. He had certainly tried to get what he wanted, but too soon the blinding agony in his brain was too much and he collapsed, senseless from the pain. When he awoke, he was trapped in a cell of sorts. Nothing like the damp, unpleasant locations his father had a tendency to keep his slaves while he had still been alive, but an unwanted cage nonetheless. He cursed his captors in all the foulest language you can imagine, but the endured without a word, the elderly mare placing a concoction in his cell, telling him that it would help his aching head. Naturally he had spit in her face - or as close as possible - and told her in very colorful language just what he thought of her for it.
Yet, over time something changed. Perhaps it was the familiar faces. Or maybe it was the fact that eventually he had tried the herbal remedy and his migraines had dulled to a point that some days his head did not hurt at all, or at least was only a mild ache. Mayhap it was the fact that they told him that this had once been his home, that his family was here. Whatever the case, he began to remember. At first he had snatched at every memory and tried to force it into coherence, but that had just brought back his migraines. Sometimes he had listened quietly as Aerlinn spoke of who he had been. Other times he had hurled venomous insult whenever she or any of the others had spoken ill of his father. And then came the day that Miyax stepped into the cave and clear memory hit; the day of their first meeting, when she had nearly killed herself in a land he had once owned. The details had been sketchy, but the memory of what he had told her had been so strong he had spoken them aloud, much to her surprise. Miyax herself had filled him in on the details of that memory, bringing more memory from the depths of his mind where they appeared to have been hiding. She had gone on to relate her own painful history and all the parts he had played in the better parts of it. Hard to imagine himself in such a tender, patient role, yet flashes of memory seemed to confirm all she said. He is not fully himself yet, but he is well on the way to mending.
A good thing too, for it was not long after when a brute by the name of Zane stole Miyax. It took a great deal of begging and pleading, but he convinced Aerlinn at last to release him so that he could battle for the freedom of his beloved mate. True, part of him feared - just as the bay Lead of Shadow Canyon did - that he would take off back into the lecherous life he had been leading for too long, but there had not even been the slightest bit of temptation. The minute he was out, he was on his way to the battlefield. Well, aside from the period in time he had to wait for the appointed moment of battle. However, all he had done was hang out in one of the Free Lands and conversed with another stallion who appeared to be in the same boat, having had someone dear to him stolen as well. Eventually he had joined Zane on the battlefield and emerged victorious. Better yet, he has since learned that the little thief has died and can no longer trouble Miyax or anyone else.
Now all he has to do is completely regain his memories, if at all possible...
