-What You Can’t See-
Personality: Brina is the very epitomy of sweetness. From this fair golden damsel one never will hear a cross word or sharp stinging words of anger. She is very even-tempered and sweet, and it would take a vast extremity to bring her to anger. She is compassionate, always wishing to help those in need. She is also able to see beyond the faults of others to the good within them, just as she saw beyond the darkness within her beloved Battle Cry to the good and light that was there. She is afraid of very little, mostly because she led a very sheltered foalhood. If it were not for the fact that she was brutally stolen from her mate and forced to bear the thief's child, she would not fear anything at all. However, it is very difficult for anyone to remain unscarred after such an experience as she had and Brina is no exception. Even now, years after escaping the brute who took her, she still wakes up in a cold sweat, shaken by her nightmares.
History: Born fifth daughter of a Beta stallion and his love, Brina was small and weak for the first few months of life. Because of this fact, she was doted on by her parents and also by many of the other herd members, in particular, her yearling sister, Telrunya, who acted like a second mother to the filly. As Brina grew, she was more and more under the care of her older sister, leaving her mother freedom to take care of her duties as Beta mare and also to enjoy time free of looking after offspring.
Brina and Telrunya were inseparable during those two years they had together. Then, tragically in the eyes of both flickas, on Telrunya's fourth birthday they were separated for the very first time, as it was herd law that all foals must leave when they turn four. It was a very tearful separation and Brina moped for months afterward, missing her sister terribly. Then it came time for her to leave the herd, which she did with little complaint to the surprise of the herd, though not so much to her parents. They could guess what was on their youngest daughter's mind. And so their guess was correct; Brina had resolved to seek out her older sister, so that they could be together once more.
However, things did not work out the way she had planned. Though she searched for two years, nary did she find a trace of her beloved older sister. No matter how hard she tried, she could not find Telrunya. Then, as the years passed and she despaired of ever finding her sister, Brina met a Dark stallion called Battle Cry. Love at first sight between a Light and a Dark? It seems preposterous, but neither cared. For three happy years, Brina lived in the flowery stronghold of her beloved Battle, all thoughts of her search forgotten in the bliss of all-encompassing love.
Alas, such happiness, they say, can never last. And so it was in this case, for on a spring morning, as Brina was out in the gardens to wake the flowers as was her wont, another Dark invaded, taking the lord of the castle's most precious possession. Though she fought hard and desperately, Brina could not overcome the strength of her captor. Eventually she found herself, cold, frightened, and wounded, in a slave cell on the land of a cruel Dark -- so very unlike her beloved Battle. Here it was that she spent several years, bearing one foal to the savage master of the land and losing the rest to miscarriages caused by stress and beatings. Then one day, inexplicably, the cell door was left open. Perhaps her cruel master, so euphoric on the pain he had been causing her that evening, he had forgotten to latch it. Whatever the case, Brina did not think twice about what to do. She opened the door all the way and fled without a backward glance. Unsure where to go, having learned from her tormentor that Battle was dead, Brina has therefore chosen to resume her search for her sister. And now she has come to WE, determined more than ever to find her lost sister.
Months of search revealed nothing. However, finally one day she met a fellow Gypsy called Fennore, who had word that the subherd on his land had once been led by a palomino Gypsy mare. Hoping against hope that she might finally be reunited with her sister, Brina hurried to Glacier Springs.
There she found no sign of her sister expect old, stale scents and a broken stallion who initially mistook her for Telrunya. This mistake was both an encouragement and an inducement to fear. Obviously her beloved sister had once lived here, but it was clear that Telrunya lived there no more. She learned from the stallion that her sister had been stolen by a stallion whom he referred to as Battle. Suddenly electrified, yet terrified it could not be true, Brina queried whether the stallion's full name might be Battle Cry. Discovering it was so, she begged for directions and Jared agreed to lead her to the stronghold where her sister and beloved resided. The journey seemed to take forever, but that was probably due to the confusion battling its way in her mind. For on the one hand, she was overjoyed at the thought of being reunited with the two most important equines in her life. On the other hand, it shocked her that her beloved Battle could have stolen a mare away from her home -- a fact made worse by the fact that the mare he had stolen was her sister. She feared what he might have become in her absence, but was determined to get to the bottom of everything.
Though the reunion was not an easy one for any of them, things eventually resolved peacefully enough. Telrunya returned to her own home with Jared and Warrior, while Brina remained with her beloved Battle. For a time there was peace and joy, and Brina conceived in this time. Sadly, only days after, Warrior arrived with the terrible news that his mother, Telrunya, had once again been stolen. Though it was apparent Jared had tried to get her back and died in the attempt, Battle also tried to rescue the golden mare, only to never be heard from again. Left with the young twins to look after, as well as her nephew, Warrior, and a young filly by the name of Sephenia, Brina has done her best to look after everything, hoping someday to see her beloved again.
A talk with the Dark King, Incognito, secured the freedom of Telrunya. And eventually Battle did return home, discouraged at failing to rescue her sister, yet relieved to see that Telrunya was free after all. However, he had little more than a few days with the family, before he passed away in his sleep. Though she has grieved deeply the loss of her beloved mate, Brina has done her best to stay strong for the sake of her family. Even when a furious Appaloosa invaded the land, looking to inflict harm on them all, she faced the situation with a calm serenity and out of that chaos was born a friendship with Axel that might just become something more...
